I've been trying to personalize the house and yard with "our" style - I've made some paintings/drawings on canvas - they are still to be hung on the wall 😳😜 and have been trying to think of ways to decorate the yard that will stand up to the sometimes extreme Caribbean heat - sun - salt air and humidity. I've been decorating bamboo driftwood for the gardens and wanted a bigger "canvas" - the chairs are the perfect item to experiment on. I sprayed a sunset on the chair using<div>an indoor outdoor spray paint that adheres to plastic. </div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-9zWY6f6NzPA/V9Gz0jOdJII/AAAAAAAABCI/24h9vR_MT54/s640/blogger-image--1255592225.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-9zWY6f6NzPA/V9Gz0jOdJII/AAAAAAAABCI/24h9vR_MT54/s640/blogger-image--1255592225.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-jmfVyDe75o8/V9Gzzkue3FI/AAAAAAAABCE/qiKHyAraZw8/s640/blogger-image--1945687300.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-jmfVyDe75o8/V9Gzzkue3FI/AAAAAAAABCE/qiKHyAraZw8/s640/blogger-image--1945687300.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">I let it dry for an hour or so and got straight to drawing with a regular Sharpie permanent marker. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-B33_TJRD4W8/V9Gz1koH4kI/AAAAAAAABCM/S0d2KwVqcx8/s640/blogger-image-255760683.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-B33_TJRD4W8/V9Gz1koH4kI/AAAAAAAABCM/S0d2KwVqcx8/s640/blogger-image-255760683.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-l-EJKqYHU5c/V9Gz2-_gs4I/AAAAAAAABCQ/4BVIc-8QMBA/s640/blogger-image--1530695868.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-l-EJKqYHU5c/V9Gz2-_gs4I/AAAAAAAABCQ/4BVIc-8QMBA/s640/blogger-image--1530695868.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> I have a bit more drawing to call it finished and then I will cover it with a clear gloss spray made for plastic also indoor outdoor use. I'm not certain how this will work here - my concern is that the clear gloss won't protect the paint from sticking and peeling off when the chairs get stacked for storage. I will cure them in the house for the recommended time and then put outside to see how it weathers. In order to test the durability of the spray gloss I think I will need to make another painted chair and see how they react to being stored stacked. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">If anyone has experience with a similar project I'd love to hear from you! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><br></div><br></div><br></div><br></div>Emily Lagorehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03693980786515949789noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2930395800711378419.post-74666317866938354352013-04-25T12:39:00.000-06:002013-04-25T12:39:53.134-06:00Making and Giving Away more Postcards!!My daughter Ellen is participating in a fundraiser for the Canadian Diabetes Association. She is walking in a 24 Km hike in Iceland in August!! I think it's just so great that she and her co-workers at <a href="http://barberha.com/" target="_blank">Barber Ha</a> are all doing this together and working together to raise funds. They have had several themed parties and more are planned. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--CvypAjs-vQ/UXl2ElnvrpI/AAAAAAAAA0U/WdVY4deGh0k/s1600/elleniceland.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" lwa="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--CvypAjs-vQ/UXl2ElnvrpI/AAAAAAAAA0U/WdVY4deGh0k/s640/elleniceland.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
In an effort to help Ellen - I am going to send a handmade Mandala postcard to anyone who donates $25 or more. <br />
<br />
Click on this link <a href="https://ocp.diabetes.ca/Pledge/csSearchResult.asp?prId=td" target="_blank">Pledge Ellen Lagore</a> to make your donation and then email me with your address so I can send your postcard to you. My email is emily at emilylagore dot com.<br />
<br />
I am so excited to help Ellen and to be making cards to send out to all of you!!<br />
<br />
Here is my process so far - <br />
<br />
I created some background pages with spray inks - Dylusions pretty pretty colours - and used my own handmade stencils. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gtoUQLjK-gg/UXl2RCL12VI/AAAAAAAAA0c/5wHxG9KbAh4/s1600/6459.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" lwa="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gtoUQLjK-gg/UXl2RCL12VI/AAAAAAAAA0c/5wHxG9KbAh4/s640/6459.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Then I used my method of sealing and toning down the inks with a glaze - the tutorial can be found <a href="http://emilylagore.blogspot.ca/2012/08/spray-ink-background-tutorial.html" target="_blank">here</a>. The pages looked quite different after - perfect for doodling Mandalas on!! <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bDfPWExMRVY/UXl3UNPZ9nI/AAAAAAAAA0o/S5PTwRGa7lw/s1600/6478.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="416" lwa="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bDfPWExMRVY/UXl3UNPZ9nI/AAAAAAAAA0o/S5PTwRGa7lw/s640/6478.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wB5exWK9ePA/UXl3YbQPKXI/AAAAAAAAA0w/uBvpzwrCy2s/s1600/6468.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" lwa="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wB5exWK9ePA/UXl3YbQPKXI/AAAAAAAAA0w/uBvpzwrCy2s/s640/6468.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xvjzLaksc5A/UXl3caOs-II/AAAAAAAAA04/tVZR8rqO5wI/s1600/6460.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="552" lwa="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xvjzLaksc5A/UXl3caOs-II/AAAAAAAAA04/tVZR8rqO5wI/s640/6460.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hINwHBbZkAM/UXl3gmDVyuI/AAAAAAAAA1A/SjSHGPmE9jw/s1600/6479.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="446" lwa="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hINwHBbZkAM/UXl3gmDVyuI/AAAAAAAAA1A/SjSHGPmE9jw/s640/6479.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I have started doodling already and when I complete some pages I will post my results. <br />
<br />
Many thanks to anyone who finds it in their hearts to donate - Ellen and I truly do appreciate it!!<br />

I meant to put a link and promote it before the deadline but I was sidelined with a nasty cold and didn't do much online work at all for a few weeks. <br />
<br />
Unfortunately I didn't take many progress pics except a few on Instagram. <br />
<br />
I started out with some Strathmore paper and used my Gelli Plate and acrylic paints with stencils to lay down a background. With several layers of paint on the papers I drew Mandalas strategically so that once it came to cutting the postcards to size there would be a fair portion of Mandala on each postcard. After drawing on the Mandalas - I applied a glaze with Glaze Medium to seal and put a shine over the entire card. <br />
<br />
These are the 10 cards - 4"x6" - they are all hand addressed and fancied up with some of my favourite washi tapes on the backs. <br />
<br />
I am excited to recieve my postcards!! Thanks for all your hard work organizing the swap Hanna!!<br />

Emily Lagorehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03693980786515949789noreply@blogger.com20tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2930395800711378419.post-53089397880332175712013-03-21T14:08:00.001-06:002013-03-21T14:08:17.291-06:00Making StencilsOn my quest for authenticity - I have been wanting to make my own stencils for quite some time now but kept pushing it aside. Actually, I've had the supplies for over 6 months and it was high time to dig them out and get with it. After giving myself a huge nudge and getting over a few hiccups I do believe I am one step closer to having my authentic art voice singing in my work. <br />
<br />
I used a heat tool - or heat pen it is sometimes called. I had purchased some stencil blanks and spent a long hour pushing that tool through the stencil material. Yikes. It was thick and gummed up the tool tip and kept leaving threads of plastic attached to the corners where I had cut. Frustrating to say the least. But I did manage to cut out a flower shape and was quite pleased with the outcome. On my second attempt I used a more complicated design and didn't even get a quarter of the way through - it was not worth the frustration. <br />
<br />
On Instagram I got the suggestion to use plastic folders for the stencil material and I remembered I had a pad of acetate hanging around. The acetate is much easier to glide the heat pen through and away I went!!<br />
<br />
I used a glass cutting board that I found cheap at the thrift store. I taped my design underneath the glass and taped the acetate to the top of the glass. I find it's easier to pull the tool towards you rather than away from you. It is also easier for me to do lines all running in the same direction to get a flow going - then flip the cutting board around and do another direction. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BsYJEIH9o44/URvWyA7w4cI/AAAAAAAAAxs/n0P8Cc16nFc/s1600/6395.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="350" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BsYJEIH9o44/URvWyA7w4cI/AAAAAAAAAxs/n0P8Cc16nFc/s640/6395.JPG" uea="true" width="640" /></a></div>
It took a bit of time to get through drawing with the heat tool on this stencil but after I was done I pushed all the cut out pieces out and my stencil was ready to go. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bXzTiAEPHMU/URvXIITajFI/AAAAAAAAAx0/bfO9chvVohg/s1600/6400.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="608" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bXzTiAEPHMU/URvXIITajFI/AAAAAAAAAx0/bfO9chvVohg/s640/6400.JPG" uea="true" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
A quick test with some spray inks - <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-j-rV0tyyI3w/URvYZbv2QtI/AAAAAAAAAyE/vuQHvaQowtA/s1600/6402.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="500" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-j-rV0tyyI3w/URvYZbv2QtI/AAAAAAAAAyE/vuQHvaQowtA/s640/6402.JPG" uea="true" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
And then spray inks on to a wood panel over top of some collage. I blended the spray inks with some white acrylic and some watered down self leveling gel. Now the panel is ready for some Mandala drawing. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1ukaYQofOCc/URvYeyLkK6I/AAAAAAAAAyM/mR989f4PGVQ/s1600/6405.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="638" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1ukaYQofOCc/URvYeyLkK6I/AAAAAAAAAyM/mR989f4PGVQ/s640/6405.JPG" uea="true" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Have you made your own stencils? Try it - it's easy peasy once you get the hang of it!</div>

I had a birthday brunch for my sister Lois on the weekend and let my family pick their favourite card. <br />
<br />
This is important for me to remember. <br />
<br />
My favourites are not necessarily others favourites. <br />
<br />
I know I've mentioned this before - but I am a slow learner and need to learn lessons over and over. It is a good reminder to keep going with a piece regardless if I like it or not. Because chances are good someone else will enjoy it. <br />
<br />
Here are my cards - I gotta tell you - this was GREAT fun doodling on small pieces like this - freeing and fun!! The cards are approx. 4.5"x5.5".<br />
<br />
Hope you have a wonderful Valentines Day!<br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I first applied my liquid acrylics in a random manner with not much attention to colour or placement. I spread it with my Catalyst Wedge over a sheet of light pink scrapbook paper. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="470" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3rWb0BUgEUI/URstVfsEQuI/AAAAAAAAAvk/bTfOTjOfp-Y/s640/6374.JPG" uea="true" width="640" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Whenever I am demostrating this technique - I always say the same thing "now - quick like a bunny" spatter water drops from your fingers onto the wet paint before it dries. And I mean it - do this quickly or your paint will dry and you will not get the effect we are going for. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OGfKnJob6bk/URstYjNqNRI/AAAAAAAAAvs/WUMNXRG_6Io/s1600/6375.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="438" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OGfKnJob6bk/URstYjNqNRI/AAAAAAAAAvs/WUMNXRG_6Io/s640/6375.JPG" uea="true" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The water acts as a retarder for the paint underneath where it lands. When the paint on the other parts of the paper have dried - sometimes only a minute or two of drying time depending on how thick you have applied the paint - take several tissues or a wad of paper towel and gently blot the wet drops. If your background paint hasn't dried yet - give it a minute or two more to dry - we are wanting to sop up the paint where the water landed - not the background paint.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Here is the background after wiping up the water.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MoqQToOfLac/URstmWQBAzI/AAAAAAAAAv0/ovp2NDRzo6U/s1600/6376.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="592" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MoqQToOfLac/URstmWQBAzI/AAAAAAAAAv0/ovp2NDRzo6U/s640/6376.JPG" uea="true" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">A closer look at the effect of the water spatter. </div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AmQoPCp2D7I/URstp9JQoTI/AAAAAAAAAv8/4qWVhhXxyHc/s1600/6380.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="450" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AmQoPCp2D7I/URstp9JQoTI/AAAAAAAAAv8/4qWVhhXxyHc/s640/6380.JPG" uea="true" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">You could stop there or keep going adding more layers of paint and spattering with water. As you get several layers happening - keep in mind all those luscious water spatters underneath and make your spatter cover more and more area as you go along - you wouldn't want to cover up too much of those spatters and colour combos. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Here I added another layer of lavendar and blue paint and then more spattering.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bzuRLLtinoY/URstsuzBNWI/AAAAAAAAAwE/aobEDM60wzE/s1600/6381.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="468" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bzuRLLtinoY/URstsuzBNWI/AAAAAAAAAwE/aobEDM60wzE/s640/6381.JPG" uea="true" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">A closer look at the water spatters </div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ozVxYnAClto/URstvjyRw1I/AAAAAAAAAwM/THY8aWnJ2v8/s1600/6382.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="422" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ozVxYnAClto/URstvjyRw1I/AAAAAAAAAwM/THY8aWnJ2v8/s640/6382.JPG" uea="true" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">And the final result with the water wiped up revealing the layers underneath. </div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4p1GORYd16Q/URstycdWn4I/AAAAAAAAAwU/ZVahFHlcdow/s1600/6383.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="422" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4p1GORYd16Q/URstycdWn4I/AAAAAAAAAwU/ZVahFHlcdow/s640/6383.JPG" uea="true" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The funny thing about this technique - it is very difficult to replicate a previous colour combo - seems like each time I try it turns out different and I totally embrace that!! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Have fun with your paint!!!</div>Emily Lagorehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03693980786515949789noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2930395800711378419.post-31449513176595114062013-02-07T22:47:00.000-07:002013-02-07T22:47:59.168-07:00Be MineI don't really "do" Valentines Day. But I have been known to make cards and what a wonderful excuse to use my Gelli Plate!! <br />
<br />
I originally quartered a full sheet 22"x30" of Strathmore something or other - I wish the sheets had stickers on them so I knew what I bought - but I ended up having so much fun I cut up another sheet! <br />
<br />
I used my new 12"x14" Gelli Plate and the cut up sheets were just slightly off size but it didn't matter to me - these cards are not going to be precise. <br />
<br />
I decided on my Valentine Palette <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AHr8kjt91_w/URSNwloXvNI/AAAAAAAAAtg/410zCC6ycIY/s1600/6411.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="374" jea="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AHr8kjt91_w/URSNwloXvNI/AAAAAAAAAtg/410zCC6ycIY/s640/6411.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Applied the colour randomly </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hC_5mStXu8Q/URSODTlJw4I/AAAAAAAAAto/upG-AvCEobo/s1600/6414.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="412" jea="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hC_5mStXu8Q/URSODTlJw4I/AAAAAAAAAto/upG-AvCEobo/s640/6414.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
Spread it using my Catalyst Wedge <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FBlO5GEZkiA/URSOHcUQ7iI/AAAAAAAAAtw/easoyGs6S0s/s1600/6415.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" jea="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FBlO5GEZkiA/URSOHcUQ7iI/AAAAAAAAAtw/easoyGs6S0s/s640/6415.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And drew random hearts with the smooth end of a paint brush.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vzPOUMI4lR8/URSOMgeaUEI/AAAAAAAAAt4/k7_Hfkx5h2U/s1600/6419.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="446" jea="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vzPOUMI4lR8/URSOMgeaUEI/AAAAAAAAAt4/k7_Hfkx5h2U/s640/6419.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
This is the first print pulled - the paint is quite thick and textured in some spots - might make the doodles I have planned for these difficult to draw. You can kind of see the metallic in the orange paint in these two photos below.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7OYvtjPIv3E/URSORNkthmI/AAAAAAAAAuA/4lybeIgyyc8/s1600/6420.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="436" jea="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7OYvtjPIv3E/URSORNkthmI/AAAAAAAAAuA/4lybeIgyyc8/s640/6420.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Dx8dvAhfbrQ/URSOWmOn6TI/AAAAAAAAAuI/wlsM-8gptcQ/s1600/6425.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="502" jea="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Dx8dvAhfbrQ/URSOWmOn6TI/AAAAAAAAAuI/wlsM-8gptcQ/s640/6425.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I pulled 3 prints total and also pulled a print in a small journal. Here they are from first to last and you can see how the paint either was used up by the last one or it dried out. I like all the prints - for different reasons!!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ux_jzP1F9Xs/URSObVVILuI/AAAAAAAAAuQ/UdYjPX2xc48/s1600/6422.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="318" jea="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ux_jzP1F9Xs/URSObVVILuI/AAAAAAAAAuQ/UdYjPX2xc48/s640/6422.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I wasn't done so cut up another sheet and applied more paint - twice!!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FpSaHz4NAiE/URSOipM232I/AAAAAAAAAuY/s6g-jBdoktY/s1600/6427.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="422" jea="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FpSaHz4NAiE/URSOipM232I/AAAAAAAAAuY/s6g-jBdoktY/s640/6427.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UBjJjTqQlI8/URSOmhUW0kI/AAAAAAAAAug/jz6HzC-YRyk/s1600/6428.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" jea="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UBjJjTqQlI8/URSOmhUW0kI/AAAAAAAAAug/jz6HzC-YRyk/s640/6428.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
Here are the 8 prints I pulled - love them!! <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QmNLp3tmlUU/URSOrgc5vII/AAAAAAAAAuo/Knqog-LrtDE/s1600/6430.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="408" jea="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QmNLp3tmlUU/URSOrgc5vII/AAAAAAAAAuo/Knqog-LrtDE/s640/6430.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
A juicy detail showing the texture and a little bit of the sheen of the metallic orange.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Kn-cCcOVDmM/URSO0HcSMEI/AAAAAAAAAuw/4EyUIKFhL60/s1600/6433.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="434" jea="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Kn-cCcOVDmM/URSO0HcSMEI/AAAAAAAAAuw/4EyUIKFhL60/s640/6433.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And this one was my fave print! Now I will let them dry and cut them into cards - then some doodling with my Sharpie Poster Paint pen. I will take pics and post an update when I finish them. Do you have plans to make Valentines Cards this year? </div>

<br />
I love my <a href="http://www.gelliarts.com/" target="_blank">Gelli Plate</a>!! I had never done any kind of print making before picking up this awesome supply and once I started it has become an addiction. I don't think I've even begun to explore all the different things I can do with it but I am having fun doing what I'm doing. Plain and simple - layers. I love the layers I can get with it!!! <br />
<br />
Here's a little show and tell of one tiny little gelli plate session<br />
<br />
I picked some colours to squirt on the plate - these are heavy body acrylics<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_FIt1SUf-nQ/URRG6KM0m0I/AAAAAAAAAsM/hUwxMiU4CNQ/s1600/6385.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="472" jea="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_FIt1SUf-nQ/URRG6KM0m0I/AAAAAAAAAsM/hUwxMiU4CNQ/s640/6385.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Then I used my <a href="http://princetonbrush.com/catalyst-wedges-acrylic.html" target="_blank">Catalyst wedge</a> to spread the paint around.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-pTPIqvb3O9o/URRHhysK3jI/AAAAAAAAAsU/qrAyMcvqlaw/s1600/6387.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" jea="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-pTPIqvb3O9o/URRHhysK3jI/AAAAAAAAAsU/qrAyMcvqlaw/s640/6387.JPG" width="483" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I laid a stencil over top of the spread paint - in this pic below you can see I spread some of the left over paint onto a sheet of paper which will become a painted page to use in collage.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vCYYYmJt0eQ/URRHvyvyQzI/AAAAAAAAAsc/9p3Rzgl-V4Q/s1600/6388.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="528" jea="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vCYYYmJt0eQ/URRHvyvyQzI/AAAAAAAAAsc/9p3Rzgl-V4Q/s640/6388.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">To pull prints from the stencil, I used a couple of already painted pages and a vintage book page</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Ps50nCu70VI/URRIMBghGYI/AAAAAAAAAsk/V3rT1ehyRHY/s1600/6391.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="422" jea="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Ps50nCu70VI/URRIMBghGYI/AAAAAAAAAsk/V3rT1ehyRHY/s640/6391.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br />
The paint was pretty much used up from the stencil so I pulled the stencil off and smashed it down on a journal page to create a negative image of the stencil.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pdgdA1aI8a4/URRIfvAdd1I/AAAAAAAAAss/AehobwzoeOg/s1600/6392.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="438" jea="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pdgdA1aI8a4/URRIfvAdd1I/AAAAAAAAAss/AehobwzoeOg/s640/6392.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The paint dries quite fast so I had to move quickly (it helps to have several journals and pages and painted backgrounds ready to pull prints with) and laid another painted page over top of the gelli plate and opened my journal to another page to try to use up all the paint before it dries. My favourite prints are the ones from these last few pulls where the paint has dried in some spots and it is really random how the print will turn out. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Odunwv6fM5U/URRI-VpQCgI/AAAAAAAAAs0/eVhV-8M7rgM/s1600/6393.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="441" jea="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Odunwv6fM5U/URRI-VpQCgI/AAAAAAAAAs0/eVhV-8M7rgM/s640/6393.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I hope you enjoyed seeing one of my Gelli Plate sessions!! Would love to know if you've ever tried monoprinting before!!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

Well, not really, what I am doing is following along with <a href="http://dispatchfromla.typepad.com/" target="_blank">Mary Ann Moss</a> when she is in Venice. Mary Ann is offering an online class called <a href="http://dispatchfromla.typepad.com/dispatch_from_la/ticket-to-venice-class-information.html" target="_blank">A Ticket to Venice</a> and I thought this would be the perfect way to re-live my experiences in Venice and also to learn a new book binding technique. <br />
<br />
I've been to Venice twice. The first time was with my daughter Karly's school group in 2001 - we spent one day touring Venice and I totally enjoyed my time there although it was a bit rushed as school tours usually are. <br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
After my trip I found inspiration in my photos and painted several watercolour paintings.<br />
<br />

<br />
My second trip to Venice was with my sister Carol in 2007. That was our Italy "Dream Trip" - our first trip to Italy together had been with my daughter Ellen's school group a few years earlier and it had been difficult to explore or experience on our own so we decided that one day we would go back and do things the way we wanted - our Dream Trip. Since Venice was not included in Carol's first trip to Italy we decided to spend several days there exploring. What a wonderful time we had!! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Gt65TlinkVE/UMeFFXga1yI/AAAAAAAAAq8/tOpr9IXAfAc/s1600/6742PonteRialto.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img bea="true" border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Gt65TlinkVE/UMeFFXga1yI/AAAAAAAAAq8/tOpr9IXAfAc/s400/6742PonteRialto.JPG" width="265" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We stayed at a lovely B&B hotel right on the Grande Canal and this was the view from our room. Although it can be noisy (who knew garbage collection boats would be an issue?!!) I would highly recommend a room with a view!! </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
During my first visit to Venice I missed out on touring the Basilica - I actually regretted it for years and had dreams - during my SLEEP - of Venice sinking right before my eyes before I had a chance to see inside it. I cried when we arrived in San Marco Piazza and I saw the Basilica - and it wasn't sinking!! Such a treat to be inside - we paid the extra few Euros and went up the narrow staircase to the viewing area. It puts you up close to the mosaics - incredible!!! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-i5etBfNF2x8/UMeFKDdFCoI/AAAAAAAAArM/V2WAUMUvq2Q/s1600/6254StMarksBasilica.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img bea="true" border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-i5etBfNF2x8/UMeFKDdFCoI/AAAAAAAAArM/V2WAUMUvq2Q/s400/6254StMarksBasilica.JPG" width="265" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Of course we took the obligatory gondola ride - totally pricey and totally worth it!! </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TdQ5GmbxyiU/UMeFMQj3cUI/AAAAAAAAArU/pkwPubE541Q/s1600/7022GondolaRide.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img bea="true" border="0" height="424" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TdQ5GmbxyiU/UMeFMQj3cUI/AAAAAAAAArU/pkwPubE541Q/s640/7022GondolaRide.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I am so excited to see what adventures Mary Ann has during her trip there in a few weeks. Thanks Mary Ann for the opportunity to live vicariously through you!!<br />

I own Adirondack and also the Dylusions which are my fave for the bright colours. I stumbled upon a way to use them as backgrounds for my mandalas - it is more fun for me to draw them on colourful backgrounds. <br />
<br />
Spray inks are water soluable and I find when I don't seal them with something the inks rub off on my hands while drawing - they also are a bit too vibrant for a background with marker so I like to knock them back a bit with a glaze of acrylic paint. <br />
<br />
You can try any kind of paper - these papers I am using in this book are everything from copy paper to wallpaper samples to handmade papers to textbook pages etc. I find that a page prepared with Gesso is NOT a good foundation for the inks - they tend to slide right off and we are looking for saturation with the inks. <br />
<br />
This is my Big Bertha journal which I am using pretty exclusively at this point for mandalas.<br />
<br />
Using the spray inks - spray through a stencil of your choice - once your spraying is complete - press a spare book page into the leftover ink on top of the stencil and you have a page all ready to collage or use some other way - and you haven't wasted the ink ;)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DprDzDvnMLc/UCK9LnxsS7I/AAAAAAAAAnQ/pnVpeGHLW4Q/s1600/6308.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="422" kda="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DprDzDvnMLc/UCK9LnxsS7I/AAAAAAAAAnQ/pnVpeGHLW4Q/s640/6308.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Kh6QiuTBN3w/UCK9O7vJLTI/AAAAAAAAAnY/nxfub0FgiPM/s1600/6309.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="422" kda="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Kh6QiuTBN3w/UCK9O7vJLTI/AAAAAAAAAnY/nxfub0FgiPM/s640/6309.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9e12ucub5ik/UCK9R2VfBCI/AAAAAAAAAng/4AlVRRE5NRw/s1600/6311.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="476" kda="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9e12ucub5ik/UCK9R2VfBCI/AAAAAAAAAng/4AlVRRE5NRw/s640/6311.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mIorJV5Zpaw/UCK9f9rgQGI/AAAAAAAAAno/Acijf2_KTgw/s1600/6313.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="354" kda="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mIorJV5Zpaw/UCK9f9rgQGI/AAAAAAAAAno/Acijf2_KTgw/s640/6313.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
You can blot any excess drops of ink if desired with a paper towel being careful not to scrub - the inks run and mix really easily. Once the ink is dry - seal it with a glaze of clean water and self leveling gel with a drop or two of white fluid acrylic paint per side of spread. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gfQxtodOFVw/UCK-DY9lWKI/AAAAAAAAAnw/tY0HdlDA7ak/s1600/6316.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="422" kda="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gfQxtodOFVw/UCK-DY9lWKI/AAAAAAAAAnw/tY0HdlDA7ak/s640/6316.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I start with a brush dripping with fresh water and carefully (no scrubbing) running it over the page loading more water as needed - and then adding a bit of the white paint and making sure it is even and spreading it adding a brush load of self leveling gel to all the page so the water - paint and gel mix without disturbing the ink too much. My goal here is to seal the page - and to knock back the intensity of the inks without blending the colours too much. Of course experiment and find the affects you prefer.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OVYZc9fvGj0/UCK-HquNkMI/AAAAAAAAAn4/gE8IoIhAnXo/s1600/6320.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="422" kda="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OVYZc9fvGj0/UCK-HquNkMI/AAAAAAAAAn4/gE8IoIhAnXo/s640/6320.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Here is the left side of the spread completed - and I am not thrilled with how it turned out - I had 3 drops of white and I find it covered too much of the colour so I wiped off a drop of the white I had laid out on the right side. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BA43MER5NTs/UCK_xIp0EQI/AAAAAAAAAoA/F_7juQeioyE/s1600/6323.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="346" kda="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BA43MER5NTs/UCK_xIp0EQI/AAAAAAAAAoA/F_7juQeioyE/s640/6323.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
And the completed page which I will let dry - or speed up with my craft heat gun - and then spray with a varnish - matte finish. The self leveling gel is sticky and tacky even when dry - the pages tend to stick together pulling off when the page is opened - the spray varnish leaves it with a smooth matte finish that is wonderful and not sticky. I've worked over the varnish with paint, marker, gel transfers etc with good success. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zDAqmUbSbEo/UCK_2GVfFQI/AAAAAAAAAoI/tl8riq9YI8g/s1600/6324.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="384" kda="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zDAqmUbSbEo/UCK_2GVfFQI/AAAAAAAAAoI/tl8riq9YI8g/s640/6324.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Heh - so I wasn't happy with how that spread turned out - the colours were knocked back a bit too much for me. I made another spread and took pics along the way. Same technique - all except instead of using book pages to sop up the leftover ink I pressed another spread from this journal over it - I love the negative effect. <br />

<br />
You now have a colourful page to decorate as you wish - I've used this technique with 300lb Arches cold pressed watercolour paper and collage - it worked wonderfully! <br />
<br />
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and have fun putting your own spin on it :)Emily Lagorehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03693980786515949789noreply@blogger.com16tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2930395800711378419.post-72004945410052306632012-08-08T12:41:00.000-06:002012-08-08T12:44:27.346-06:00Meet Big BerthaMeet my newest girl - Big Bertha journal!!<br />
<br />
She is 8"x8" - I made her myself thanks to the wonderful instruction of my darling daughter Karly :) Big Bertha is my first handbound book and I loved the process. She is filled with all kinds of found papers including discarded photocopies, pages from text books - music books - atlases and also some file folders and cut up paper shopping bags. I never quite know how those pages will accept the spray inks I've been using and that is half the fun of this book - happy surprises!!<br />

On a personal note - I am still not well these days - the process to find a medication that will help my depression and anxiety has not been easy. I am still trying and have just started a new one - which once again is making me extremely dizzy. I am finding that I have completely abandoned this blog and also reading all my fave blogs because the motion of my eyes going back and forth makes the dizzy worse. So sorry to all my blog friends out there - I am hoping to get back to routine once I figure all this out.<br />
<br />
On my good days I sit at my art desk and use my spray inks to create backgrounds for these mandalas - artistically all I can do on my dizzy days is sit quietly and draw my mandalas. I am really thankful to have something to keep me busy :)Emily Lagorehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03693980786515949789noreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2930395800711378419.post-79389771640068079402012-06-14T11:04:00.001-06:002012-06-14T11:04:03.146-06:00Doodles Doodles and yes - more DoodlesHello to all who are still with me here on my poor neglected blog!<br />
<br />
Posting from my iPhone with a few instagram pics of my goings on the past few weeks. I am still not well - although feeling a bit better after switching meds earlier this week. The dizzy is not as bad - but still not driving - hard to shoulder check with my head spinning. I've only left the house a couple of times in the past 2 weeks - dr appts mainly and physio. My beautiful daughter Ellen has been taking good care of me :)<br />
<br />
I am currently obsessed with my spray inks and have created a ton of backgrounds in a few of my journals - to doodle away my dizzy days. And doodle - have I ever!!!<br />
<br />
Here are a sample of the doodles I've been showing my instagram friends - so easy to post with just a few words over there :)<br />

<br />
I had every intention of writing a full blog post or two today complete with journal update photos - I even took photos this morning - but "the dizzy" has taken me over and I am incapable of sitting up and doing the necessary editing on my comp. I am typing this on my phone leaned back in my comfy chair with the boys curled on my lap watching the Nascar race. <br />
<br />
Let me explain - I took the next step with my anxiety and depression and I started my meds this week. Dizzy has been my theme this week - a side effect that I am crossing my fingers will subside soon. <br />
<br />
So all my best intentions to post will have to wait til the world stops spinning. <br />
<br />
To distract myself I have fallen completely in love with Instagram!! If you are on there please let me know - I WANT to follow you!!! If you would like to follow me I am emilylagore there :)<br />
<br />
A pic I posted on Instagram this morning - I was delighted to find a few lily of the valley blooms hidden amongst all the quack grass and dandelions in my -heh- "flower bed"<br />
<br />
Enjoy your weekend!!<br />
<br />

He had a double header and they won both games! <br />
<br />
I was very happy I thought to bring along my Large Moleskine and my trusty Copic multiliners!! I doodled and drew for most of both games - the 2nd game was under the lights giving me just enough light to continue drawing. It was a chilly evening with a bit of a wind - we've been out of the cold for an hour and a half and I am still chilled. I took a few shots of my doodle with the game (David at bat) in the background and told Davids dad Jon I was going to blog about my game doodle. Well that just gave him license to tease me every chance he could "why don't you blog about this? Or that?" It's all in good fun:)<br />
<br />
Time for bed- 7am alarm set for us so we can get Starbucks before the 8:30 game - where I will show Jon that I blogged about my doodle and HIM ;)<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Ke2qswuP3Qs/T8HOp5Iu1XI/AAAAAAAAAjg/5S4Jbso9phg/s640/blogger-image--1055053685.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Ke2qswuP3Qs/T8HOp5Iu1XI/AAAAAAAAAjg/5S4Jbso9phg/s640/blogger-image--1055053685.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-OSGO0DaOkFU/T8HOqr_o6DI/AAAAAAAAAjo/liBfmw6kIyI/s640/blogger-image--1128134116.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-OSGO0DaOkFU/T8HOqr_o6DI/AAAAAAAAAjo/liBfmw6kIyI/s640/blogger-image--1128134116.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-_qaAYVNqDMA/T8HOq2b0IjI/AAAAAAAAAjw/M3Q2HeOHhwk/s640/blogger-image-210687892.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-_qaAYVNqDMA/T8HOq2b0IjI/AAAAAAAAAjw/M3Q2HeOHhwk/s640/blogger-image-210687892.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-ja-tzG5Pvlo/T8HOr8bLI0I/AAAAAAAAAj4/ARva6brO6eI/s640/blogger-image-474541729.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-ja-tzG5Pvlo/T8HOr8bLI0I/AAAAAAAAAj4/ARva6brO6eI/s640/blogger-image-474541729.jpg" /></a></div>Emily Lagorehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03693980786515949789noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2930395800711378419.post-79691773428704147132012-05-23T16:06:00.001-06:002012-05-24T00:40:08.146-06:00Arting with Auntie EllaToday is an arting day with Auntie Ella!! Yea! Ella is my dad's sister and she is my godmother who used to send us girls fancy dresses each Easter and Christmas - she is a fave ;)<br />
<br />
Last trip here to Phoenix Carol and I taught Ella how to art journal and she took right to it. She brought old greeting cards and old photos. I made her some tags with the old cards and she told me all about the old photos. I took her albums home and scanned some of her wedding photos - the album photos were too small for her to see so I enlarged and printed some for her :). Today we are journaling with those photos and having a lovely afternoon. My spread is the darker pink and coral one in my Santa Croce Angel Journal and Ellas is the softer pink one. <br />
<br />
Wasn't Ella a beautiful bride?!<br />
<br />
She is living my life motto- never stop learning or you stop living:)<br />
<br />
She is 84 and learning how to art journal :)<br />
<br />
Love you Auntie Ella :)<br />

Linda would come home and find her with the card and she would pick the card up and put it away somewhere "safe". But Sarah always found it and made it her own - it was finally destroyed at the end of January. When Linda told me the card story and how much Sarah liked her card - I gave her another one that I had extra. Here it is the end of May and Sarah has almost destroyed her 2nd card. Too darn cute!!<br />
<br />
The card was made with alcohol inks and glossy cards with poster paint pen drawings and lettering. I guess they were a big hit.....with a cat named Sarah!<br />

My husband Clayton was excited to share this experience with our family since he had been on the same trip last spring during a business trip and thoroughly enjoyed it. <br />
<br />
I am not a fan of boats or the water but knew I would enjoy the stingrays- we've been several times and it's always a thrilling experience! <br />
<br />
Oh boy was I ill. I asked Elle to take my pic so I could journal about it ;). Here I am 5 months later and I've actually completed the page - the background has been painted for almost 5 months - I got the idea while on the boat to have this crazy background withh all the colours of the ocean I was seeing that day. Heh. So I procrastinate- what else is new?!<br />
<br />
Trying again with the Blogger app and pics from my phone- one of these times I will figure out how to orient my phone the way Blogger wants me to. <br />
<br />
*rolls eyes*<br />
<br />
Have a great Monday!!<br />

We've had a lovely lazy day - floating in the pool - Mimosas - some shopping - a delicious pasta dinner at home and some art too!! <br />
<br />
An entry in my Embrace Imperfection journal. Fun stuff doing some doodling over a inky Gessoed background. <br />
<br />
Hopefully there will be plenty more arting happening this week - its always great to have an art mess on the table ;)<br />

<br />
I thought it would be challenging to work a fantasy flower as far out on the page as comfortably possible while still retaining the shape somewhat. I loved working on this one and I haven't put colour on it yet because I am letting it marinate for a bit - to see if it's done or if it needs some tweaking.....<br />
<br />
this one will be challenging to colour with the big blocks in the pattern - which is why I am still thinking about maybe adding some more design into it to make it more manageable to colour evenly...<br />
<br />
drawing these shapes, designs and patterns is so soothing to me....real therapy!!<br />

<br />
seriously pissed off.<br />
<br />
I have spent a couple of hours on a blog post documenting all my journals with links to previous posts etc. I had been saving it frequently while typing it. <br />
<br />
this happens ALL the time. I must have lazy fingers that rest on my touchpad while typing OR my fingers are possessed. but I touched something WRONG and poof. all my work including about 20 photos uploaded and resized.....all disappeared. <br />
<br />
gone.<br />
<br />
so frustrating.....<br />
<br />
I am going to take a bath....I will try again tomorrow.<br />
<br />
here's something pretty to look at - I think I need it too ;)<br />
<br />

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is my newest journal - a real heavyweight!! There is so much gel holding the pages together that I think I might have doubled the weight of the book with just gluing pages! It was a Math textbook which I find totally hilarious because I do NOT do math!! Some books while I am prepping them for altering I read the pages as entertainment while ripping them out and gluing the remaining pages together. heh. Not with this one....I don't think I read even one math problem ;) But the twisted side of me loves that this is my journal - a sick kind of irony. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I bought a piece of birch plywood....really thin stuff and it's so smooth and gorgeous! I tried a gel transfer on it and it worked beautifully. This photo I transfered is a pic of an angel statue that is in the outdoor courtyard of Santa Croce Basilica in Florence, Italy. Michaelangelos tomb is here and it's one of my fave spots in Florence. My daughter Ellen discovered this stunning angel and took pics of it. I somehow missed her my first 3 trips there but was determined to find her this past September. I was not disappointed she is more beautiful in real life and I just love her, her hair, her crossed wings and the clouds in the background. She was the perfect size to fit on the cover of my newest journal and I've titled it</div>

<br />
I started out with painting the journal with my hand carved "cinnamon bun" stamp all over in purple and then a light wash of grey over top with a final layer of silver! This book has a subtle shine and I love it! I am going to attach a book mark ribbon to the eyelet on the spine. All in good time ;)<br />
<br />
Here's a page from this journal that just plain makes me happy!! Love the colours and the feel of it. I love how my dress shows through on the gel transfer. I need to journal more....it makes me happy while doing it and after as well. <br />

I haven't painted in it but I really enjoy the thick paper to draw on with my Copic multiliners. I pack it into my carry on when I am travelling and since starting this habit of bringing it on the plane with me I haven't watched one movie in-flight - all I want to do is draw!! And the best part is that I don't have to power it down during take off and landing ;) Moleskine has a wonderful pocket on the back inside cover and I keep business cards in it in case someone shows an interest in my doodles I can direct them to my website and blog. <br />
<br />
It had not occured to me to decorate the cover (duh!) until I started seeing others around the web doing it - including Tammy of <a href="http://daisyyellowart.com/" target="_blank">Daisy Yellow</a> where she <a href="http://daisyyellow.squarespace.com/vividlife/creativity-queue-challenge-day-no-6.html" target="_blank">smashed some paint on her Moleskine</a>. In case you haven't visited Daisy Yellow please do....Tammy is a wealth of inspiration and knowledge and there is a plethora of gorgeousness over there.<br />
<br />
I threw some paint around the other day and had a lot of fun painting my cover and then while out shopping for tracing paper and carving blocks at Michaels I found this beautiful piece of abalone shell that I thought would match perfectly with this colour scheme. I tried to find the word mandala in my 2 dictionary's that I use for collage but it is not entered so I settled for doodle which is quite appropriate :)<br />
<br />
I am so thrilled to have a decorated Mandala Moleskine to take on my travels!!!<br />

She is such a great friend and I appreciate her so :)<br />
<br />
She's almost finished her first altered book and tonight she prepped her new one. She also made the base for a beautiful spread and tag in one of the last pages of her very full first book. <br />
<br />
You can see that chocolate is front and center - an important part of our arting ;)<br />

Don't you love my messy table? You can see I have a meticulous filing system for my collage papers and my stencils. yikes! I need a new system for my overflowing paint bottle bucket. I am still thinking on that one and haven't quite come up with the right idea yet. I did buy some shelving for my table though and need to assemble it so my papers and stencils will be a bit more organized and accessible. <br />
<br />
Tonight I worked on a base for a spread in my Anxiety journal and I completed a page in my newest journal which I haven't titled yet....the journal not the page. I figure that I am rapidly gaining a collection of journals and if they don't have titles then I won't know how to distinguish them from each other. I took pics tonight of this newest journal and will show you in another entry - maybe by then I will have a title for the journal. <br />

<br />
well I do!!<br />
<br />
they are such fun to work with - very reliable - easy to change the nib or cartridge if you are like me and wear down the nib on a regular basis - a $2 nib is a lot easier to swallow than replacing the pen for over $10!! and those brush points are delicious!! oh I just love colouring in my doodles!!<br />
<br />
okay...way too many exclamation marks going on here...on to the pics of my declaration of love for my copics....<br />
<br />
this in in my large Moleskine and I've been working on it for probably a month or so....<br />
<br />
not thrilled with how dark it got in the center of the heart - but I am considering adding some 3-D white paint dots or swirls in there to break it up....we shall see....<br />
